KUALA LUMPUR: The voting process for the MCA central party committee concluded at 7pm on Sunday (Sept 24), stated Datuk Chong Sin Woon.
According to the MCA secretary-general, the voter turnout among delegates was 56%.
In regards to the speed of the vote-counting and tallying, Chong mentioned they learned from Saturday’s experience and expected the results to be available by 11pm.
Chong also reported that no complaints were received throughout the voting process.
The nominations for the 2023 MCA elections occurred on Sept 11.
The MCA president position will be a straight contest between Dr Wee Ka Siong and former central committee member Datuk Tan Chong Seng.
On the other hand, there were no challengers for the position of Deputy president, held by Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.
For the vice-presidential posts, seven candidates are competing for four spots, including incumbents Datuk Tan Teik Cheng, Datuk Lim Ban Hong, and Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker, alongside newcomers Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, Datuk Lawrence Low, Datuk Nicole Wong Siaw Ting, and Dr Pamela Yong.
A total of 48 candidates are vying for the 25 central committee posts.
The central party polls involve approximately 29,000 MCA delegates and 605 electoral votes.
Throughout the country, 160 polling stations have been established.
MCA has scheduled its annual general meeting (AGM) for Oct 21 and 22.
