KUALA LUMPUR: The voting process for the MCA Wanita and Youth wing leadership concluded smoothly at 7pm on Saturday (Sept 23).
Datuk Chong Sin Woon, the party secretary-general, stated that results at the divisional level are expected to be reported from various states around the country starting from 8pm.
“Given that only over 4,000 delegates participated in the voting, we do not anticipate a long period for counting and tallying votes,” he added, noting that the voter turnout was not particularly high.
Chong further announced that the newly elected leadership lineup for both the Wanita and Youth wings will be announced by around 10pm on Saturday.
In the competition for the MCA Youth chief position, Ling Tian Soon, Daniel Wa Wai How, and Bernard Chan Kee Siang engaged in a three-cornered fight.
Meanwhile, Wong You Fong defended her position as the Wanita MCA chairman against Datuk Ooi Siew Kim.
Ooi previously served as the Penang Wanita MCA chairman and Bayan Baru division chief.
The elections for the central party committee are scheduled for Sunday (Sept 24).
The party’s polls include a total of 52,736 divisional delegates, consisting of 29,151 MCA delegates, 5,016 MCA Youth delegates, and 18,569 Wanita MCA delegates.
Nationwide, 160 polling stations have been established for the central committee election, comprising 149 divisional polling stations and 11 joint divisional polling stations.
MCA’s annual general meeting will be held on October 21 and 22.
