MCA plans to introduce a new key performance index (KPI) for member recruitment for state party chiefs, according to Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, the MCA president. He has set a target of recruiting 1,000 new young members for party leaders in Melaka. The aim is to attract the younger generation and ensure the party’s future succession, with the number for leaders in other states to be set later. The Melaka MCA convention, held at a restaurant in Kota Laksamana, was opened by Dr Wee on Sunday (Aug 27) and saw the presence of MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon and Melaka MCA chief Datuk Lim Ban Hong.

To support the party’s rejuvenation process, Dr Wee stated that MCA currently has around 70,000 members under the age of 40 and this number should steadily increase. The task of securing these numbers has been given to Melaka MCA leaders, who will then set the recruitment target for other states. He also highlighted that other political parties are also making efforts to attract young members, especially with the voting age being lowered from 21 to 18.

Dr Wee emphasized the importance of listening to the voices of young Malaysians and including their perspectives on issues related to jobs and business opportunities, in order to remain relevant as a party.
