MCA will hold its annual general assembly this coming Oct 21 and 22 following the conclusion of party elections, says Datuk Chong Sin Woon (pic).
“Following the conclusion of the MCA Central Committee election between Sept 23 and 24, the general assemblies for the MCA Youth and Wanita wings will be held on Oct 21.
“The MCA annual meeting of the General Assembly will take place on the subsequent day, Oct 22.
“These assemblies are scheduled to be held at Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur,” the MCA secretary-general said in a statement on Monday (Aug 28).
He said that nomination day for the election of MCA Central Committee and its two wings would be on Sept 11.
He added that nominations for the respective polls would be held at San Choon Hall, located at Wisma MCA, Kuala Lumpur between 1pm and 5pm.
He said that polling for the MCA Youth and Wanita wings would be held on Sept 23 while the election of the MCA Central Committee would be held on Sept 24.
The party polls, he said, would involve a total of 5,089 central delegates, comprising 2,278 central party, 1,066 youth and 1,745 women delegates.
Also involved in the party polls, he said, would be 52,736 divisional delegates, comprising 29,151 central party, 5,016 and 18,569 women delegates.
Chong said that 160 polling stations would be set up nationwide for the central committee election, comprising 149 divisional polling stations and 11 joint divisional polling stations.
As for the Youth and Wanita wings, he said a total of 155 polling stations, including 147 divisional and eight joint divisional polling stations would be set up for the polls.
He said that 2,979 personnel have been assigned to manage the voting, vote counting, and observation process.
“The voting process for all three respective bodies will occur simultaneously nationwide between 2pm to 7pm,” he said, adding that ballot order for candidates would be done through a drawing process based on established traditions.
In conjunction with the party elections, Chong said that the party’s election steering committee would send out letters of notification to all divisions via electronic communications on Monday.
“For members above 65 years of age and without a mobile phone number, we will notify them through postal mail,” he added.
Chong reminded division and branch chiefs including delegates to vote on time at their respective polling stations.
He said only division delegates tasked with responsibilities related to voting, vote counting and observation were allowed to cast their votes earlier at 12.30pm at their designated polling stations.
Chong said delegates may access details on their respective polling station locations and print their handbills beginning Aug 28, at noon by clicking “Semakan” on the MCA party election official website at http://mcape.mca.org.my/.
Central delegates who intended to be nominated for candidacy in the Central Committee elections could visit the MCA party election website to download the nomination forms.
Alternatively, they may also visit the Organising Department on the 8th Floor of the Party Headquarters during office hours to acquire the nomination forms, Chong added.
