In order to help religious agencies in Malaysia fulfill their responsibilities, Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar believes that media practitioners should play a role in disseminating authentic information. The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) emphasized the importance of cooperation from the media to raise public awareness about the role of religious organisations such as Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (YaPEIM).

He stated that the media’s positive contribution is crucial in ensuring that correct information about the missions of agencies like YaPEIM reaches the public. Without these efforts, he believes that this religious agency will not progress far. Dr. Mohd Na’im hopes that the ties between the media and religious agencies will be maintained to facilitate this positive contribution.

Meanwhile, Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, the editor-in-chief of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), emphasized the importance of using Malaysian journalistic ethics as a guide for journalists. She stressed the need to avoid inaccurate reports, as they can lead to the creation and spread of fake news in the community, especially in the digital era where online media holds significant influence.

Unverified news not only affects the journalists who write it but also the entire organization, she stated, highlighting the importance of journalistic ethics as a guide in news reporting.

During the 2023 YaPEIM with Media Appreciation and Charity dinner, a total of 100 media practitioners, including journalists, photographers, cameramen, and former media personnel, received cash aid totaling RM50,000 from YaPEIM. This aid was distributed through five media associations and clubs, with each recipient receiving RM500 under the Inspirasi Prihatin YaPEIM programme.

Datuk Dr. Mohd Radzif Mohd Yunus, the YaPEIM Board of Trustees chairman, attributed the success of this effort to the collaboration of KL and Selangor Media Club (KLS), Malaysian Professional Press Photographers Association (MPPA), Crime Journalists Association (CiJA), Putrajaya Media Club, and Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM). The effort identified recipients among media practitioners who truly needed assistance, reflecting the positive impact of media and religious agency cooperation. – Bernama
