Gleneagles Hospital Penang has always prioritized patient care, and this commitment has contributed to its success over the years, according to CEO Ivan Loh. Loh emphasized the importance of doing the right thing for every patient and serving with a heart-driven approach, as people are the foundation of their work. At the hospital’s 50th anniversary celebration, attended by 370 guests, Loh expressed gratitude and reflected on the hospital’s origins. Originally established in 1973 as Penang Medical Centre, it was acquired by Parkway Holdings Ltd in 1989 and renamed Gleneagles Medical Centre. The hospital has undergone significant expansion since then, with its capabilities growing and a major new wing added in 2013.

Today, Gleneagles Hospital Penang stands as a symbol of progress with 350 beds, advanced facilities, and a team of over 80 specialist consultants. Throughout its five-decade history, the hospital has achieved remarkable clinical successes and served as a beacon of hope and healing for the community. To commemorate the 50th anniversary, Loh joined other dignitaries in pouring gold liquid into a large vessel, triggering confetti and illuminating the anniversary logo.

In his remarks, IHH Healthcare Malaysia CEO Jean-Francois Naa highlighted the hospital’s commitment to embracing medical advancements and adopting new practices to improve patient outcomes. The hospital aims to make a positive impact on patients, people, and the public. Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, who oversees human capital development, science, and technology portfolios, praised Gleneagles Hospital Penang’s technology-driven approach to healthcare. He expressed pride in Penang leading the way with forward-looking healthcare institutions and attracting patients from around the world.

The evening concluded with renowned Malaysian comedian Douglas Lim entertaining the audience with humorous observations about life.
