The Melaka government is considering the possibility of making private-sector premises in the state play the “Negaraku” and “Melaka Maju Jaya” anthems every Monday morning, according to Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. This decision would expand on the directive for government offices in the state to play these anthems at 10am every Monday. During his address at the state-level “Malam Ambang Merdeka” celebrations at Dataran Sejarah Ayer Keroh, the Chief Minister mentioned that they will assess the suitability of extending this directive to locations with mass gatherings. A circular issued by the Melaka government in April already requires government departments and agencies to play these anthems every Monday at 10am. Listeners are required to stand when the anthems are played. Over 30,000 people attended the eve of the 66th National Day festivities at the square. – Bernama
