The police in Melaka have begun an extensive search for three armed robbers after an elderly couple was injured during a break-in at a village home in Kampung Brisu, Simpang Ampat in Alor Gajah. According to Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad, the robbery took place at 11.40pm on Saturday. Four men armed with machetes entered the house to rob it while the couple, aged 70 and 60, were at home.
The male victim sustained serious injuries on his back after being slashed with a sharp object, and his wife was also injured. Both were rushed to Alor Gajah Hospital for treatment, said Supt Arshad on Sunday.
Based on information from the victims, the suspects fled in a silver car. Upon receiving the alert, Melaka police headquarters, with support from the Alor Gajah team, sent officers to the scene. Supt Arshad said one of the suspects was detained while hiding in the bushes about 200m from the crime scene early Sunday morning. A brief scuffle took place when the suspect tried to escape, but police also retrieved a bag belonging to the victims from the suspect.
The suspect, who has a criminal record with 17 drug-related offenses and five serious crimes, was also found positive for drugs during a urine test. He admitted to committing the robbery with three others who are still at large. The investigation is ongoing under Section 394 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
