MELAKA: Melaka DAP has never manifested anti-Malay stances whenever programmes beneficial to the community are tabled, says Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
The Melaka Chief Minister said that the four DAP representatives in the state had been very supportive of the community’s development agenda and never objected to any proposal relating to the Malays in the state.
“I don’t know whether it’s the same in other states but here I can assure you that Melaka DAP is concerned about Malay rights and welfare,” he said after launching Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024) car stickers at Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh here on Tuesday (Aug 16).
Ab Rauf was responding to a question by the media on talks that the alliance between Barisan Nasional with Pakatan Harapan, especially with DAP had caused Umno to register huge losses in the Aug 12 state elections.
Umno lost all the seats it vied for in Terengganu and Kedah, won only two in Penang and Selangor, and one in Kelantan.
However, the party fared well in Negeri Sembilan where it won 14 seats from the 17 state constituencies that it contested.
Ab Rauf said he was confident that Umno would make a strong comeback despite a dismal performance in the state elections.
“All political parties were once at their lowest point like what Umno is going through now and I believe we will soon return stronger,” he said.
Ab Rauf said there is time for the party to rejuvenate and evaluate and troubleshoot its shortcomings.
