Alor Gajah: The state government of Melaka is working on a foster school programme in collaboration with public and private institutions of higher education to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the state. Fairul Nizam Roslan, Chairman of the State Science, Innovation, Technology and Digital Communications Committee, stated that the aim of the initiative is to promote interest in the field among students.
The programme will involve 77 secondary schools and will include knowledge and technology sharing, as well as encouraging students to pursue TVET. Fairul Nizam mentioned that the state government is coordinating the programme through the Melaka State Education Department, by matching the institutions of higher education with the secondary schools. The official launch of the programme is set to take place in October, coinciding with the 2023 Smart Melaka International Conference (SMIC).
Fairul Nizam also revealed that several institutions have already expressed their commitment to the programme. These include the Technical University of Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), the University of Technology MARA (UiTM), Multimedia University Melaka (MMU), and University College of Agroscience Malaysia (UCAM).
The programme is expected to increase the participation of students from the secondary schools in the 2023 Malaysia Techlympics South Zone level competition, which will be held in Melaka this year.
