Hawkers and traders in Melaka will be required to contribute to the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS), under the Social Security Organisation (Socso), starting from December this year, according to Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, the Chief Minister of Melaka. To apply for or renew their business licenses, these individuals must make the contributions through one of the four local authorities in the state: the Melaka Historic City Council, Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council, Alor Gajah Municipal Council, and Jasin Municipal Council. The scheme offers long-term protection for those involved in accidents while working, with a contribution as low as RM46.60 per year or RM3.88 per month. This insurance provides unparalleled affordability and benefits not only the hawkers but also their families.
Ab Rauf Yusoh emphasized that the enforcement of the SKSPS contribution is aimed at safeguarding the hawkers and traders in Melaka, ensuring their continuous well-being. Additionally, the contributions serve as a form of insurance that guarantees financial support if accidents occur at work. He further added that this initiative would provide security for the individuals and their families, granting them the ability to proceed with their lives.
In other news, Ab Rauf announced that the Melaka government has successfully resolved 8,840 complaints, constituting 95.19% of the total 9,287 complaints received through the state’s public complaints management system (SISPAA) between January 1 and August 31, 2023. Of these resolved complaints, 7,286 of them, representing 82.42%, were addressed within a span of 15 days. The Chief Minister expressed his hopes that the improvement of public services based on feedback received through SISPAA would continue to enhance the well-being and comfort of the people in Melaka.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister stated that a mini event called “Hari Bertemu Rakyat Mini” would be gradually implemented in all constituencies through his working visits. This initiative would enable the state leadership, particularly Ab Rauf Yusoh, to closely monitor and gain detailed insights into the development programs in each constituency. Additionally, it allows for direct interaction with people at the grassroots level, providing an opportunity to address their concerns and resolve any issues they may have, thus allowing them to enjoy the government-provided facilities and convenience.
