MELAKA: A claim has emerged that beef soup sold at a Ramadan bazaar in Melaka may have been contaminated with fly eggs, prompting an investigation by the state health department.
Dr Ruzita Mustaffa, the State Health Director, stated that if tests verify the contamination, necessary action will be taken against the hawker responsible for selling the tainted soup.
“After the issue surfaced on social media, our team swiftly obtained a sample of the soup for laboratory testing. We will decide on the appropriate steps following the test results,” she explained during a health screening at the Alor Gajah Ramadan Bazaar on Friday (March 15).
The event was overseen by Melaka’s health, human resources, and unity committee chairman, Ngwe Hee Sem.
A concerned individual from Johor Baru raised the alarm in a Facebook post, revealing that the beef soup purchased at a Semabok Ramadan bazaar on March 13 was discovered to contain fly eggs.
Upon returning home with her food from the bazaar during the fasting month, the woman was shocked to find fly eggs in her soup.
