MELAKA: The Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) hopes to promote the Neon Charity Walk which is filled with vibrant lights and fun as a soft sports tourism for the state.
MBMB mayor Datuk Shadan Othman said he has requested the organiser to consider holding the walk at least three times a year.
“Hundreds of participants turned the event into a dazzling affair.
“Hence, I have requested the walk to be organised frequently as a new attraction for the historic city as well as raising funds for non-profit organisations,” he said after the flagging-off ceremony of the event at the Independence Declaration Memorial Square, located next to Dataran Pahlawan on Saturday night (Sept 9).
The event was also attended by Melaka entrepreneur, cooperative development and consumer affairs committee chairman Allex Seah Shoo Chin.
Shadan said he saw great potential for the event to attract participants from all over the country which would indirectly boost the tourist arrival to the state.
“The event was also meant to help raise funds for cancer survivors as we can witness today that many people came forward to support the charity walk,” he said.
The walk was organised by the Lions Club of Tanjung Bidara together with MBMB.
Tanjung Bidara Lions Club’s chairman Patric Chang said more than RM60,000 was collected in aid of the cancer survivors during the event.
