MELAKA: The tourism, heritage, art, and culture committee chairman of Melaka, Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, has announced that major religious activities of all communities in the state will be incorporated into faith-based tourism. The religious travel sub-sector aims to offer meaningful and valuable tourism experiences by highlighting the practices of Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Taoists, and Sikhs in the state. Abdul Razak stated that the stakeholders at the state tourism promotion board will strive to promote activities of all religions that showcase Melaka’s unique identity. He made these declarations during a press conference held to announce the upcoming Melaka Fair at Kota Cemerlang, which is organized by the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA). In attendance was the chairman of the MATTA Melaka Chapter, Goh Hock Gin. The fair, taking place from October 6 to October 8, will be held at the Dataran Pahlawan Megamall in Bandar Hilir.
As part of the initiatives to promote Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM 2024) and strengthen the unity and harmony among people of different races and religions in Melaka, the state government recently organized a Muhibbah Feast, wherein three houses of worship, namely the Kampung Kling Mosque, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, and Sri Poyyatha Vinayagar Moorthi Temple, participated. Chairman of the Melaka Portuguese Heritage, Arts and Cultural Society, Martin Theseira, welcomed the promotion of faith-based tourism and expressed his hope that the Feast of the Assumption and the Feast of the Holy Cross at Malim Hill be included as major tourism events for TMM 2024. Theseira emphasized the significance of these celebrations to the Roman Catholic community nationwide and underscored the potential for turning them into prominent tourism events for the state. Despite their historical ties to early Melaka, these feasts have remained understated affairs in previous years.
