In relation to the ninth anniversary of the tragic downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, the Transport Ministry affirms its commitment to seeking justice for the victims.
The ministry highlights that although two Russians and a separatist Ukrainian have been sentenced to life in prison by a Dutch court for causing the crash, the fight for justice is far from over.
According to the ministry, the verdict delivered by the District Court of The Hague in the Netherlands on Nov 17, 2022 is a significant step towards uncovering the truth and providing justice for all 298 victims and their families.
Among the victims, 43 were Malaysians.
However, the ministry emphasizes that this development does not mark the end of the pursuit for justice.
The ministry discloses that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council has decided to proceed with the hearing on the Settlement of Differences between the conflicting parties during its 228th session meeting on March 17.
On Monday (July 17), the ministry states, “Malaysia is determined to ensure that the process upholds truth, justice, and accountability.”
The ministry also takes the opportunity to extend its deepest sympathies and condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the MH17 tragedy.
