JOHOR BARU: The president of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran, has stated that the party is currently identifying suitable seats to contest in the upcoming 16th General Election. Vigneswaran also mentioned the party’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its grassroots and ensure that existing members are genuinely committed to the party.
“Firstly, we need to strengthen our grassroots and not have members who are only associated with the party in name,” Vigneswaran said. He added that having numerous divisions without enough quorum during meetings defeats the purpose, prompting the party to consider restructuring these divisions to avoid having non-existent members on the list.
These remarks were made by Vigneswaran to reporters on Sunday after attending the Johor MIC convention. In addition, the president stated that MIC plans to amend its constitution to make it obligatory for state party leaders to meet with division chiefs at least once every three months.
“This decision was reached after considering the concerns expressed by grassroots members who find it difficult to meet state leaders,” Vigneswaran explained. He further noted that this amendment aims to address the issue and subsequently enhance the relationship between state leaders and division chiefs.
Turning to another matter, Vigneswaran emphasized that MIC will continue to collaborate closely with Makkal Sakti, both in terms of serving the people and politically. He stated that both parties share the same aspirations and seek to assist the Indian community in particular.
Furthermore, Vigneswaran highlighted that this partnership will also benefit the Indian community by improving their awareness of available assistance and initiatives. By working together, both parties can effectively communicate and provide necessary information to the community.
