JOHOR BARU: The upcoming by-elections for the Pulai parliamentary seat and Simpang Jeram state seat will feature three-cornered fights involving candidates from Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional, and Independent parties, according to Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh. In Pulai, Perikatan candidate Zulkifli Jaafar will face off against Pakatan candidate Suhaizan Kaiat and Independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi, who is the president of Persatuan Keselamatan Pengguna Kuala Lumpur (PKPKL). “The first candidate, Samsudin, will be running as an independent candidate with his own logo,” Abdul Ghani explained. “The second candidate is Zulkifli from Perikatan and the third candidate is Suhaizan from Pakatan,” he added.
Meanwhile, in Simpang Jeram, the candidates are Nazri Abdul Rahman from Pakatan, Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya from Perikatan, and Independent candidate S. Jeganathan.
“The campaign period will be extended until 11.59pm on Sept 8,” Abdul Ghani announced. He also revealed that the EC has established two campaign enforcement teams in Pulai and one in Simpang Jeram to ensure a fair campaign process during this period. He emphasized that all campaign materials are allowed as long as they avoid sensitive issues, particularly those related to race, religion, and royalty. Violations of the Election Offences Act will be subject to legal action. “We hope that all parties involved in the election will respect and follow the rules, creating a harmonious environment for all,” Abdul Ghani stated.
Earlier, Pulai parliamentary returning officer Miswan Yunus confirmed that he had received the nomination papers from all three candidates at 9.08am and none of the papers were rejected.
