A group of political secretaries representing all ministers has signed a joint letter urging for the suspension of Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin, the Member of Parliament for Putrajaya. The letter will be delivered to Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), by October 6. This action comes after Radzi’s allegedly rude behavior during a parliamentary session. The letter will be submitted three days before the Dewan Rakyat convenes on October 9.
Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, the political secretary to the Prime Minister, revealed that the call for suspension was made because Radzi verbally attacked Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the winding-up of the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review in the Dewan Rakyat on September 19. According to the news portal, Shamsul emphasized the importance of criticism and differing viewpoints but expressed the need to refrain from insulting others.
During the heated exchange, Radzi refused to sit down despite being instructed to do so by Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul. This led to his ejection from the parliamentary session. Radzi’s demand for an apology from Anwar over his remarks towards Perikatan Nasional sparked the incident. The incident began when Anwar, the Member of Parliament for Tambun, was providing an explanation regarding the outcome of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s graft case.
Upon Radzi’s ejection, Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and several other Members of Parliament staged a walkout in protest of the Speaker’s decision. The council of political aides to government MPs echoed the call for Radzi’s suspension on September 20 in response to the incident.
