KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian government has allocated RM6.5 billion for the implementation of 1,002 dilapidated school redevelopment projects across the country from 2016 to 2023, according to the Education Ministry’s recent Facebook post.
This allocation is part of the government’s commitment to addressing the issue of dilapidated schools through the 2023 Rolling Plan. The post further stated that RM923.97 million has been specifically set aside for the implementation of 417 new and extension projects nationwide under the same plan.
The ministry emphasized that efforts to improve educational facilities in Sabah and Sarawak have also been prioritized, with the implementation of 327 dilapidated school building development projects. These projects account for 78% of the total approved projects for this year.
The Ministry of Education added that the maintenance and upgrading of dilapidated school buildings are key priorities, in line with Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek’s assurance that the goal of providing equal access to quality education for all Malaysian children, towards the creation of a prosperous Malaysia, remains at the forefront of the ministry’s agenda. – Bernama
