Ministry committed to monitoring food supplies in the country, says Fuziah

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry is dedicated to overseeing the food supply in Malaysia, employing approximately 2,200 enforcement officers on a daily basis, as stated by Senator Fuziah Salleh.

Out of this total, 900 officers are assigned specifically to monitor prices across the country. The ministry’s enforcement officers conduct raids on business establishments, while undercover officers evaluate the costs of goods to ensure an adequate food supply.

“Our enforcers adhere to a schedule, but they also conduct surprise inspections on occasion. We also have officers in plainclothes who visit shops randomly, rather than following a set schedule,” she stated in a parliamentary session on October 9.

Fuziah provided this response to a question from Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodi (GPS-Sri Aman) about the ministry’s enforcement efforts to monitor goods’ supply and prices in the market.

Regarding the Jualan Rahmah program, Fuziah stated that it has already benefitted over 40 million individuals cumulatively.

“The subsidy for Jualan Rahmah amounted to RM150 million, with a budget allocation of RM100 million in 2023. The Prime Minister also approved an additional RM50 million,” Fuziah explained.

She further added, “Thus far, we have successfully reached 40 million people, and the total purchases amount to RM890 million.”
