The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security will suggest the use of subsidized imported rice in government premises such as hospitals, police training centers, military camps, and school hostels to increase the availability of local rice in the market. Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu stated that he will discuss this proposal with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also serves as the Finance Minister, on Monday.
According to Mohamad, implementing this initiative is expected to replenish the local rice supply in the market. He added, “Government premises will purchase imported rice at a subsidized price ranging between RM32 and RM35 per bag.” He shared these comments after participating in the Sembang Santai Perpaduan talk in Simpang Pelangai on Thursday, September 28.
Furthermore, Mohamad also mentioned that India will make a decision next week regarding the continued export of white rice to Malaysia.
