The Local Government Development ministry is requesting a RM300mil allocation for the upcoming budget announcement to build “BMW (bersih, menawan, wangi (clean, captivating, fragrant))” public toilets nationwide, according to Nga Kor Ming.

The minister stated that the ministry recently held a dialogue with the Treasury secretary-general regarding its reformation agenda for public facilities.

“We then requested for RM300mil to build the BMW status toilets nationwide.

“If provided, the allocation will be distributed to 155 local authorities in the country.

“We also hope to change all the lighting to LED or solar lights, which are sustainable and eco-friendly,” he said during a visit to the Seri Kepayang flats today (Sept 9).

The flats are one of the 11 low-cost public housing (PPR) flats in the state that received allocation from the ministry for upgrading and maintenance works.

Nga mentioned that the government allocated RM8.5mil, the highest in history, to the Perak Housing and Property Board (LPHP) to upgrade living conditions in PPRs.

In addition, by 2025, the ministry aims to build a total of 10,000 solar-powered trading kiosks to regulate and legalize unlicensed petty traders.

He said that by the end of this year, a total of 3,073 kiosks will be launched, surpassing the earlier target of 3,000.

“The local councils will decide on the strategic locations for these kiosks to be situated.

“The maximum fee will only be RM10 per day, with the fee going as low as RM3 depending on the situation and business type,” he added.

Nga stated that the fee will be collected to ensure the gradual maintenance of the kiosks.

“I am confident that we will be able to reach the 10,000 target in two years,” he added.
