KULAI: Tragedy struck as a teenager with dwarfism, who had been missing since Tuesday (March 5), was discovered dead in a drain in Kulai.
Kulai OCPD Supt Tan Seng Lee confirmed that the 17-year-old’s body was found around 12.30pm on Wednesday (March 6), approximately 4km away from where he was last seen.
The victim’s father reached out to the authorities at around 9.40pm on Tuesday to report the disappearance.
Investigations revealed that the teenager, who had special needs, was playing with friends in the drain amidst rainy weather before being swept away by strong currents.
In response to the distress call, a search and rescue operation, in collaboration with the fire and rescue department, was immediately launched.
Unfortunately, due to unfavorable weather conditions, the operation had to be temporarily halted around 2am on Wednesday.
“The search continued at 9am with the support of the public and our K9 unit,” mentioned Supt Tan.
After extensive efforts, the body was eventually located at approximately 12.30pm, 4km away from the initial site where the victim went missing.
The case has since been classified as a sudden death incident.
