KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra), previously associated with allegations of financial mismanagement, has received an official “low risk” rating from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for 2023.

Mitra was informed of its status through a letter signed by MACC’s Agency Integrity Management Division (BPIA) director, Datuk Nor Azmi Karim on November 22, as reported by Bernama.

Mitra’s Special Committee chairman, Datuk R. Ramanan, confirmed receiving the letter two days ago and expressed his gratitude for the MACC’s support.

Ramanan emphasized that the MACC’s positive rating for Mitra will have a beneficial impact on the agency and its public image. Since becoming the chairman of the Special Committee, Ramanan has been focused on improving Mitra’s standing, especially in light of past allegations of mismanagement.

Ramanan, also the Sungai Buloh MP, acknowledged the poor perception of Mitra within the Indian community due to past legal cases concerning the agency.

He stated his determination to enhance Mitra’s delivery system, particularly in terms of integrity and transparency, and expressed confidence that the positive rating will lay the groundwork for further improvements benefiting the Indian community, especially the B40 group.

Ramanan also shared his plans to inform Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim about the positive development and implement further reforms in the coming year.

Meanwhile, Mitra director-general Ravindran Nair described the rating status as long-awaited and a positive sign, following unwarranted accusations. Nair expressed gratitude for Ramanan and his team’s leadership in bringing about significant changes to strengthen Mitra’s management system. – Bernama
