PETALING JAYA: The 14-year-old caught trespassing and impersonating hospital staff poses a security breach and can put the health and lives of patients at risk, says the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA).
MMA said in a statement that it takes a serious view of the incident which took place in Hospital Sultan Idris Shah (HSIS) in Serdang.
“This breach in security can potentially put the health and lives of patients at risk.
“We urge the authorities to tighten up the security system, particularly regarding the identification of staff, to ensure no repeat of such incidents.
“Patient safety and privacy must remain the highest priority at all times,” it said.
Confirming the incident, the Health Ministry said initial investigations revealed the teenager had used a fake identification card to pose as a member of the hospital staff.
“On Aug 7, hospital management received a report regarding the suspicious behaviour of an individual who was found masquerading as a hospital staff member.
“They immediately acted on the report and identified the individual, before an official police report was lodged,” said the ministry in a statement on Thursday (Aug 8).
MMA urged the hospital to thoroughly investigate the matter to ascertain if the incident had in any way affected patient care.
“Additionally, the 14-year-old’s mental health should also be assessed as it is unusual for a 14-year-old to behave in such a manner,” it said.
The teenager has since been remanded for two days until Tuesday (Aug 10).
