In Miri, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has deployed its Bombardier CL-415 aircraft to assist the Fire and Rescue Department in conducting a water-bombing operation to put out peat fires in the Sungai Adong area since Wednesday (March 27).

The Miri maritime zone director, Maritime Captain Mohd Shafie Paing, stated that the operation was initiated once the aircraft arrived at 3pm on Thursday (March 28).

“A total of 30,000 litres of water was utilized to control the fire. Around 60.70 hectares are affected, with 60% successfully extinguished,” he mentioned in a statement on Thursday.

Various departments and agencies, along with private companies in the Miri district, were involved in the operation to assist in containing and extinguishing the blaze that began last Saturday (March 23).

Mohd Shafie highlighted that the operation will continue until the fire is completely put out. – Bernama
