The Education Ministry (MoE) is ready to adhere to the established guidelines, which may involve relocating students or rescheduling the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations if the flood situation deteriorates. Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that the ministry has taken the necessary steps to prevent the impact of flooding in order to ensure the smooth running of the examinations on Tuesday (Dec 5).
“We have our guidelines and are fully prepared, including the possibility of relocation in case of floods. As was the case last year, when the SPM exams had to be rescheduled due to road closures and other factors, the guidelines include preparations for such scenarios,” she told the media after the 2023 KPM-FAM U17 Cup League final at Pasir Gudang City Council Stadium last night.
Fadhlina had previously announced that the SPM exams would proceed, even in flood-affected areas, as the MoE had thoroughly prepared to ensure the exams proceed as scheduled. However, candidates are advised to immediately inform their school or the state Education Department (JPN) if they are unable to reach the designated exam center or any nearby center due to the disaster.
The 2023 SPM science practical test will take place from Dec 5 to 7, with 91,908 candidates registered for the Physics subject, 93,135 for Chemistry, 72,841 for Biology, and 1,784 for the Additional Science subject.
The KPM-FAM U17 Cup League final earlier saw SMK Taman Desa Skudai (JDT B-17 Academy) from Johor emerge as champions after defeating Perlis’ SMK Syed Hassan 1-0. Fadhlina also mentioned that additional sports tournaments will be organized in the future to discover and nurture the hidden talents of students. – Bernama
