KUALA TERENGGANU: The newly appointed speaker of the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly is Bukit Payung assemblyman Datuk Mohd Nor Hamzah. On Sunday (Sept 24), Mohd Nor took the oath of office at the swearing-in ceremony held at Wisma Darul Iman. The ceremony was conducted by Zulkifly Isa, the state assembly secretary. Mohd Nor, who is 51 years old, has been an assemblyman since 2008 and previously served as a state executive council (exco) member from May 2018 to June 2023. He is also the treasurer of the state PAS Liaison Body.
The deputy speaker of the state assembly has been appointed as Seberang Takir assemblyman Khazan Che Mat. Along with him, a total of 32 elected representatives who won the state elections also took the oath of office at the ceremony, which was led by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar. The swearing-in ceremony also included 10 exco members and 21 other assemblymen.
In a historic first for Terengganu, Perikatan Nasional (PN) emerged victorious in the Aug 12 state elections, resulting in no opposition in the state assembly. This is the first time that this situation has occurred in the history of the state.
