KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat observed a moment of silence Monday (June 24) to mourn the deaths of Dewan Negara president Datuk Mutang Tagal and former MP Tan Sri Joseph Kurup.
“On behalf of the House, I would like to convey our condolences to their families…. I hope they will stay strong to face their losses.
“I call upon all MPs to stand and observe a moment of silence to give our respect for both deceased who have contributed to the country,” Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul told the august House.
Mutang, 70, passed away at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur, on May 10.
Kurup, a former Sabah chief minister, passed away due to heart complications on April 17, aged 80.
Meanwhile, Johari also announced that the third meeting of the third session of the 15th Dewan Rakyat sitting has been moved to Oct 14 and will continue until Dec 12.
He added that the meeting will take place for 35 days.
The second meeting begins today and is scheduled to go on until July 18, for a total of 15 days.
