Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced that Batik Air will be offering RM399 flight tickets for the Kuala Lumpur-Sibu route during the Chinese New Year period. The tickets are going on sale starting today.

Loke explained that due to high demand for the route during Chinese New Year, the ministry had requested Batik Air to schedule additional flights from Kuala Lumpur to Sibu on Feb 6 and 7.

“The fare for the KL-Sibu flights will be fixed at RM399. These additional flights by Batik Air are in response to the sold out economy tickets from other airlines for the same route,” he told reporters after delivering his 2024 New Year mandate to the ministry’s staff on Friday (Jan 12).

In addition, Loke mentioned that these extra flights would be brought forward from the planned regular flights to Tawau in Sabah and Sibu, which were originally scheduled to begin on Feb 8.

“Prices for flights to Sabah and Sarawak during the festival period have been fixed to ensure affordability. The airlines are allowed to sell these tickets at a price lower than RM599,” he stated.

Regarding train rides during the Chinese New Year period, Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) will be operating additional trips to Ipoh and Padang Besar from Kuala Lumpur.

“There will be six electric train services daily, with four extra trains for the KL Sentral-Ipoh-KL Sentral routes on Feb 7 and Feb 13,” Loke explained.

He also mentioned that two of the KL Sentral-Ipoh-KL Sentral express trains will only take two hours, as opposed to the normal duration of two hours and forty minutes. These faster trains will only make stops at KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur, and Ipoh. Tickets for these trains will go on sale from Jan 15 onwards,” said Loke.
