IPOH: Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, the Perak Mentri Besar, has announced that more quit rent payers in Perak are expected to opt for online payment by 2024. Land owners in Perak can now check their rent and status at the Perak Land and Mining (PTG) office’s website. Starting from next year, PTG will no longer issue physical bills for quit rent. Landowners can register themselves on the website where they can also review their payment history and other property-related matters. These statements were made by Datuk Seri Saarani during a press conference after the state-level National Land Day celebration at Casuarina@Meru.
Saarani highlighted that Perak is the first state in Malaysia to implement an online payment system for quit rent across all 12 districts, following in the footsteps of the Federal Territories. Despite acknowledging that there may be individuals without internet access or familiarity with the online system, he emphasized the importance of progress. He drew a parallel with online payment of electrical bills through various transaction platforms, which has made the process more convenient and accessible. The aim is to provide an easier user experience for the public by eliminating the need to visit the PTG office and stand in queues for transactions.
Saarani also advised all state assemblymen to provide internet access to assist those who may need help with the online payment system. The implementation of this system is expected to encourage more property owners to register their properties online. Currently, out of approximately two million property owners in Perak, only a few thousand have registered and opted for online payment. Through media coverage and outreach to head villagers and mosque committees, the government hopes to raise awareness and understanding of the online system, ultimately increasing the number of registrations.
This move towards online payment for quit rent in Perak reflects the government’s commitment to embrace technology and digitalization to improve public services. It not only streamlines the payment process but also offers convenience and accessibility to property owners. By leveraging the power of the internet, Perak aims to enhance the overall user experience and encourage more people to utilize digital platforms for property-related transactions.
In conclusion, the Perak government’s decision to implement an online payment system for quit rent in all districts is a step towards modernization and efficiency. This initiative not only facilitates ease of payment but also empowers property owners with convenient access to information about their rent and property status. By embracing digital platforms, the government hopes to encourage more property owners to register and opt for online payment, ultimately improving the overall transaction experience and increasing efficiency in the management of quit rent in the state of Perak.
