The state of Johor has seen a rise in divorce cases among young couples, with more than 200 cases per month this year, according to Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid, the chairman of the Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Committee. In order to address this issue, the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) has implemented an intervention plan that includes counseling sessions for couples. JAINJ is concerned that the number of divorces will continue to increase if immediate action is not taken. To monitor the well-being of married couples, JAINJ has initiated a follow-up program for couples who have been married for at least six months. Mohd Fared stated that counseling sessions will be offered to couples who have been married for longer periods if they require assistance.

During the annual mass wedding event organized by JAINJ, a total of 155 couples were married. Mohd Fared highlighted that this is the second time the event has been held, following the first one in 2021. The Johor state government has allocated RM500,000 to support these young couples in managing their marriage expenses, and the program will continue in the following year.

In an unrelated incident, Mohd Fared mentioned that JAINJ has contacted the contractor responsible for the development of the Taman Pulai Indah mosque, where two ceiling panels fell during repair work. The incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 10.30pm when no visitors were present. Mohd Fared clarified that only two panels fell, despite claims of the entire ceiling collapsing. He explained that the removal of the cornice was underway and that the ceiling was scheduled to be taken down. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the incident happened after the Isyak prayer. The mosque, which was completed in 2017 and is undergoing upgrades, will temporarily conduct prayer activities in the open area outside the main hall and under provided tents. JAINJ, in collaboration with the Public Works Department, will repair the mosque once investigations into the incident are concluded.
