In Kuala Lumpur, most foreigners at their preferred meeting points on Jalan Silang and Lebuh Pudu were found to have proper documents when screened, according to Immigration deputy director-general (Operations) Jafri Embok Taha. This comes after a recent operation in the area resulted in a number of undocumented migrants being taken in.
Jafri said, “Most of them there have full documentation such as a temporary work permit for foreign workers (PLKS) and Workforce Recalibration Programme (RTK 2.0) card. Both locations are points for them to meet one another.” He made these comments to reporters after Ops Sapu in Brickfields on Monday (Jan 1).
On Dec 21, a massive multi-agency dragnet led by Bukit Aman’s Internal Security and Public Order Department resulted in 1,101 undocumented foreigners being detained at Jalan Silang and the areas around Kota Raya.
Regarding hotspots for undocumented foreigners detected recently, Jafri said the department is working with the police to take further action. “(This will be in the form of an) operation… conducted jointly with the police and local authorities,” he said.
