KUALA LUMPUR: In light of the rapid advancement of emerging technologies like new energy and artificial intelligence on a global scale, there is a pressing need to cultivate more technical talents with a deeper understanding of technology.

The Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Chang Lih Kang, emphasized that the demand for highly skilled individuals will continue to rise annually as more technology-based foreign investments pour into Malaysia.

“Last year, the government introduced the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) with 10 energy transition projects, aiming to attract investments amounting to RM25 billion, generate approximately 23,000 jobs, and help Malaysia achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050,” Chang stated.

He further explained that this initiative underscores the importance of training a larger pool of skilled technicians to meet the demands of businesses and support Malaysia’s National Policy on Industry 4.0 (Industry4WRD).

On a different note, Chang highlighted the significance of the MUB Malaysia-China Vocational Education Fair 2024, now in its third year, in providing students with diverse opportunities to advance their education and seek guidance, ultimately contributing to the development of more technical talents in the country.

Additionally, he noted that this year’s edition of the event holds special importance as it is recognized as one of the special activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.

Moreover, Chang announced that MUB and its partners, serving as the organizing committee for the fair, will be offering scholarships totaling RM10 million, enabling 500 Malaysian students to pursue further education in China.

“The year 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic ties, signifying the extensive exchanges and collaborations between both countries in areas such as trade, economy, technology, and education,” Chang remarked.
