IPOH: A motorcyclist died after colliding with a four-wheel drive vehicle that was exiting a junction in a road accident on Jalan Tambun on Thursday (Oct 31).
Ipoh district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad told Sinar Harian that the incident occurred around 9am and involved two vehicles, a high-powered motorcycle and an SUV.
According to him, initial investigations revealed that the accident happened when the 77-year-old driver of the SUV, along with a passenger, exited the junction from Kampung Baru Tambun.
“At the same time, the 25-year-old motorcyclist, coming from Tanjung Rambutan heading towards Pekan Ipoh, couldn’t avoid the SUV and collided with its right side as it exited the junction.”
Abang Zainal Abidin said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which is causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
The police are urging anyone who witnessed the accident to assist in the investigation by contacting Traffic Investigation Officer, Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, Ipoh District Police Headquarters, Inspector Mohamad Faiz Abdul Khalim at 018-3728477 or visiting any nearby police station.
Meanwhile, he advised road users to drive cautiously and always wear seat belts and helmets.
