KOTA KINABALU: A motorcyclist died while three others were injured in a three-vehicle accident along the airport road in Tawau, Sabah.

Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the 33-year-old motorcyclist died on the spot after he was thrown over 21m after hitting the windscreen of one of the vehicles in the accident at about 10.30pm on Saturday (June 27).

He said a 38-year-old e-hailing driver of an MPV and a 38-year-old driver of a car and her 38-year-old male passenger were also injured in the accident. However, their injuries were not serious.

He said all three vehicles were heading in the same direction towards the airport and initial police investigations indicated the motorcyclist was attempting to overtake the car when the accident occurred.

ACP Jasmin said the police are still continuing the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
