A motorcyclist lost his life in a tragic incident when a tree fell on him along Jalan Impian Jadi in Tuaran, near Kota Kinabalu on Thursday (Oct 12).

The victim, identified as Syair Sukma, a 45-year-old Indonesian national, was believed to have been killed instantly in the accident, which occurred at approximately 7:30 am.

Hamsa Isnurdini, assistant operations director of the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, stated that they received a distress call regarding the incident at 7:58 am.

“A team from the Tuaran fire station, led by officer Leo Sabidol, promptly arrived at the scene, located 11 kilometers away. They quickly chopped up the fallen tree trunk and thereafter extricated the victim who was trapped beneath it,” he explained in a statement.

Hamsa further mentioned that medical officials declared the victim deceased at the accident site, following which the body was handed over to the police for subsequent procedures, including a post-mortem examination.

The operation concluded with the clearance of all potential dangers from the scene by 9:45 am, he added.
