KLANG: At a townhall session on Monday (Jan 29), a tense exchange occurred between the MP for Klang and Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily questioned why MPs did not consider the wellbeing of their constituency when approving projects, giving an example of MPs asking for leniency after police issued summons to cars parked outside high-density areas.
He suggested that politicians should consult the police for input on city building to prevent security issues down the line.
V. Ganabatirau from DAP disagreed, saying that matters such as planning were not under the purview of representatives like himself.
Ganabatirau emphasized that council members, licensing and planning directors, and local council presidents should be held accountable.
In response, Comm Mohd Shuhaily questioned who elects the local council presidents, to which Ganabatirau said he had no role in such appointments.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily later admitted that the exchange had become heated but welcomed the discourse as positive.
During the meeting, Comm Shuhaily called for a ban on the sale of modified parts for motorcycles to combat illegal racing, urging politicians to take action.
He highlighted that the police had been unsuccessful in fighting illegal racing for years and had changed their strategy to use surveillance and intelligence gathering to catch racers after the act.
