SIBU: MP Larry Sng has urged the police to take action against gangsterism in Julau and Pakan to prevent it from turning into the “Wild West.” In his Facebook post on Thursday, Sng expressed concerns about the illegal activities of local gangsters, which have been causing distress for the community. He encountered some of these gangsters while visiting the Chinese community in Julau during the Lunar New Year celebrations.
Sng emphasized how quickly the once peaceful rural town of Julau has transformed into a place reminiscent of the Wild West due to the influence of online gaming and the expansion of illegal activities. He stated that the gangsters have engaged in online gambling, drug sales, contraband distribution, and illegal money lending. These activities have led to a deterioration of the peace and safety in the area, with local businesses being coerced into buying contraband and shopkeepers facing threats when resisting the gangsters’ demands.
The situation has become so dire that public servants and longhouse chieftains have incurred debts and are resorting to selling their lands to repay the gangsters. Sng stressed that the latest incident reflects the brazenness and arrogance of these individuals, and called for decisive action from Bukit Aman to address the disregard for law and order. He warned that such matters should not be taken lightly and urged for a firm response to the escalating situation.
To illustrate these issues, Sng mentioned an incident where drugs were openly sold in Julau town, demonstrating the audacity of the gangsters.
