KUALA LUMPUR: Nur Alissa Azini, a 20-year-old Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) student, is eagerly anticipating a stress-free and exciting National Day parade in Putrajaya on Thursday, August 31st, as a proud Malaysian.

With a projected attendance of over 100,000 people at the annual event, avoiding traffic congestion is crucial for Nur Alissa in order to start the day on a positive note.

Thus, she appreciates the provision of a free shuttle bus service on Independence Day. The service will be available from 4am to 2pm, in line with the operating time of the MRT Putrajaya Line train service, which will also commence at 4am on the same day.

“Given that the event takes place in Putrajaya, it normally takes at least 30-40 minutes to reach there from Raja Uda MRT to Putrajaya Sentral MRT. Therefore, the early opening at 4am is beneficial,” explained Nur Alissa, who resides in Kampung Baru.

The Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) will deploy 50 Nadiputra shuttle buses to offer free transportation from two designated locations: the Putrajaya Sentral Terminal (TPS) in Precinct 7, and the Putrajaya International Convention Center (PICC) in Precinct 5, to the parade venue.

During peak hours (4am to 8.30am and 10.30am to 2pm), the buses will have a frequency of every 10 minutes, while during normal hours, the frequency will be every 20 minutes.

Nur Alissa expressed a hope for the smooth operation of the MRT service, ensuring that she would arrive at the destination on time as planned. She also hoped that passengers using public transportation would queue up in order to maintain a smooth flow and prevent congestion.

Suzaily Mohd Yusoff, another 20-year-old student, stated that the free shuttle bus service would not only alleviate traffic congestion but also alleviate the financial burden for those who wished to participate in the Independence Day celebrations in Putrajaya.

“The 10-minute frequency is quite reasonable, as it means that those who use the service do not have to wait for long periods of time nor endure long queues. Visitors can also estimate their arrival time at the destination,” Suzaily reported.

The student emphasized the importance of cleanliness and giving priority to individuals with special needs, senior citizens, and people with disabilities. Additionally, apart from expressing their patriotism by participating in the celebrations, those using the bus and train services must also ensure the cleanliness of the vehicles.

The 2023 Independence Day Celebration parade will involve more than 16,000 participants from 65 contingents representing various agencies. Spectators attending the parade can expect to be entertained with displays such as parachuting by the Royal Malaysia Police VAT69 commandos, airshows, vintage cars, and a parade featuring popular animation characters beloved by children. – Bernama
