PETALING JAYA: Muda will reassess its position in the unity government following the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the Yayasan Akalbudi case.
During a press conference at Muda’s office on Tuesday (Sept 5), Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman stated that one of the most important “red lines” had been crossed.
“Therefore, Muda will not hesitate to review its position in the unity government,” he added.
The party’s secretary-general, Amir Hariri Abd Hadi, also expressed that cases involving politicians and public funds should not be dropped.
“In fact, we insist that there should be no discharges – including in the case of the Muda president,” he mentioned, referring to Syed Saddiq’s ongoing corruption trial.
“Will they do the same for Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s case?” he questioned.
Muda has also launched the #DakwaZahid campaign, with Amir declaring that the party would initiate a protest if their demands are not met.
The party outlined three demands: an explanation from the Attorney General’s Chambers in Parliament regarding the decision to grant a DNAA after the High Court had initially found a prima facie case; an immediate separation of the executive powers of the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor; and the Public Prosecutor to reinstate charges against Ahmad Zahid.
On Monday (Sept 4), the High Court granted Ahmad Zahid a DNAA in relation to all 47 graft charges involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds.
