In the face of a wave of Bersatu MPs suddenly declaring support for the unity government, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the chairman of Perikatan Nasional, has been praised for his resilience. The Federal Territories information chief of the coalition, Mahathir Mohd Rais, commended Muhyiddin and Perikatan for their steadfastness and committed to continuing to champion the people’s interests.

Mahathir emphasized the resilience of Muhyiddin as well as the importance of the coalition’s ability to withstand challenges, citing the shifting loyalties of MPs and emphasizing that a political party’s strength is measured by its ability to withstand storms, not just its visible size. He also mentioned the lessons from outstanding leadership throughout history, illustrating that leadership’s test is not in victory but in perseverance through trials.

According to Mahathir Mohd Rais, the current situation did not signal the end of the road for Perikatan but was simply “setting the stage for our political history’s next act”. He urged Perikatan members to remain committed to the coalition’s principles and values, assuring that they will emerge stronger despite the upheaval.

He emphasized that regardless of the number of defectors or the strength of the political upheaval, the party’s leader remains unwavering in guiding them toward goals that are deeply embedded in the people’s aspirations. As of Wednesday afternoon, four Bersatu MPs have declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. They are Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Mohd Aziz Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).
