PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin accuses the unity government of breaking promises of reform by arresting Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for sedition.
Muhyiddin claims the unity government is using legal measures to pressure political opponents and contradicts its pledge to abolish the Sedition Act.
Muhyiddin expresses sympathy for Sanusi’s predicament and emphasizes Perikatan’s commitment to the Malay Rulers’ sovereignty.
He hopes Sanusi receives a fair trial and urges everyone to remain calm and pray for his safety.
Sanusi currently faces two charges under the Sedition Act 1948 for a political speech made on July 11.
The arrest, which took place at 3am on July 18, draws criticism, but the police clarify that it was due to Sanusi’s unresponsiveness to their calls.
