Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has suggested that the government should declare the six Parliament and one state seat held by alleged Perikatan Nasional “turncoats” vacant. The seats in question are Tanjong Karang, Bukit Gantang, Jeli, Gua Musang, Kuala Kangsar, Labuan, and the state seat of Selat Klang in Selangor.
The Perikatan chairman believes that the mandate should be returned to the people to make a decision. He emphasized that the Perikatan representatives, who were elected by the people in the 15th General Election in 2022, betrayed the party by supporting the government.
Muhyiddin stated that he trusts the people have rejected Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional, who are now attempting to win the support of Opposition MPs.
He challenged the government by saying, “If you dare, declare the seven seats vacant. We return the mandate to the people and let them decide. I am confident Perikatan will win the seats with a bigger majority.”
During the Perikatan Representatives Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Muhyiddin addressed Bersatu elected representatives who supported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. These representatives include Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), and Datuk Suhaipi Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
Following this, an extraordinary general assembly of Bersatu approved an amendment on March 2 to revoke the membership of MPs or assemblymen who support anyone opposed to the party. However, on March 6, Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari declared his support for Selangor Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari.
Noting the government’s awareness of its weak position, Muhyiddin claimed they were using various means to weaken Perikatan by offering “incentives.” He believed these actions would not change the negative perception of Anwar’s leadership, which has failed to effectively govern the country.
