According to PKR youth chief Adam Adli, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has reached a “dead-end” in leading the opposition, which is why he has declined to contest his Bersatu president post in the upcoming party polls. Adam believes that Muhyiddin has nothing left to critique about the government, leading to his decision to step down from his position.
Adam stated during a press conference held at the PKR youth and women’s wing national congress that the unity government has implemented several economic recovery initiatives, including Budget 2024, the Madani Economy framework, and the mid-term review of the 12th Malaysian Plan. This, according to Adam, makes it clear that Muhyiddin is simply raising issues to satisfy himself.
These comments from Adam come in response to Muhyiddin’s statement during Bersatu’s annual general assembly, where he criticized Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Madani Economy framework for lacking a clear goal in reviving the economy. Muhyiddin also claimed that if the present situation continues, Anwar’s government will reach a “dead-end” in reviving the national economy.
During the same AGM, Muhyiddin announced that he would not defend his presidential post in the next party polls due to the presence of enough potential leaders to succeed him. However, on the following day, Bersatu AGM permanent chairman Datuk Suhaimi Abdullah stated that party delegates from across the nation had passed a motion rejecting Muhyiddin’s decision not to contest his presidential post.
