PETALING JAYA: According to Datuk Dr Salleh Said Keruak, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the Perikatan chairman, might lose his position after Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, the deputy chairman of the coalition, met with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad. Dr Salleh said that although the move surprised many, it was done to maintain the momentum of the green wave. He added that Abdul Hadi was leveraging Dr Mahathir’s extensive experience, as he had previously served twice as the country’s prime minister. Dr Salleh also mentioned that Dr Mahathir’s impressive political track record was a factor in Abdul Hadi’s decision to meet with him, as Abdul Hadi is determined to preserve PAS’s gains in the recent state and general elections. Dr Salleh expressed his views on Facebook on Friday, September 22.
On September 4, the chief ministers of the four Perikatan-led states had a meeting with Dr Mahathir and agreed to form a strategic cooperation and investments group called State Government Four (SG4). Dr Salleh also speculated that Muhyiddin might not take the matter lightly and could explore other political options. He stated that like Dr Mahathir, Muhyiddin probably believed that in politics, there are no permanent enemies. Additionally, Dr Salleh acknowledged that Muhyiddin is still the president of Bersatu and will have to rely on himself to protect his political interests and ambitions.
