KOTA BELUD: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has stated that efforts are underway at the national, state, and district levels to assist flood victims across the country.
The Deputy Prime Minister, who also serves as the National Disaster Management Committee chairman, expressed concern over the worsening situation, particularly in Johor.
He mentioned that floods have affected six districts in Johor, with 6,800 victims from 1,868 families currently being housed in 48 temporary relief centres.
Pahang, on the other hand, has 23 active flood shelters accommodating 896 people from 236 families in three districts.
Additionally, the floods have also impacted Sarawak, with 38 victims from 12 families seeking refuge at a flood relief centre.
The government has implemented various measures, such as collaborating with the heads of state disaster management committees.
Furthermore, disaster operation control centres, as well as the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and the Welfare Department, have been activated.
Coordination meetings involving relevant departments and agencies have been conducted at the national, state, and district levels.
Zahid also emphasized the involvement of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), in addition to other agencies like the army, police, and the Fire and Rescue Department, in the relief efforts.
