A 44-year-old woman and her boyfriend have been detained after lodging a police report claiming that her five-year-old son had been run over by a lorry. However, they are now being held for suspected abuse that led to the child’s death, as well as testing positive for drug use. Serdang OCPD Asst Comm AA Anbalagan stated that the boy was taken to Hospital Serdang for treatment at around 12.50am on August 22. The child arrived at the hospital unconscious, and despite resuscitation efforts, he passed away. The medical staff initially believed the child had been struck by a vehicle but further examinations revealed multiple bruises and old wounds on the boy’s body, indicating signs of abuse. As a result, the police questioned the mother and her boyfriend, discovering that they had filed a false report regarding the boy’s accident. The authorities detained the mother and her 29-year-old boyfriend from Taman Puncak Jalil on the same day. Investigations uncovered that the two had been in a relationship since the woman’s husband passed away last year. Both individuals tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine and are currently being held until Tuesday. The post-mortem revealed extensive soft tissue injuries caused by multiple incidents of blunt force trauma. The case continues to be under investigation.
In a separate report, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri announced that a seven-year-old boy who was allegedly abused by his mother and her friend in Pasir Gudang, Johor, has been placed under the care of his aunt. The Social Welfare Department determined that the victim’s aunt is the closest family member and thus eligible to provide care. However, the department will closely monitor the child as he is still traumatized. The victim has been receiving rehabilitative treatment to help rebuild his confidence. The news follows a recent case where a single mother and her female friend pleaded not guilty to abusing and neglecting a boy at the Johor Baru Sessions Court on August 16.
