NIBONG TEBAL: Umno is confident that Pakatan Harapan’s election machinery will reciprocate support in the upcoming Nenggiri by-election, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“I believe they will help us as a show of mutual affection and help in mobilising the election machinery to ensure victory for our candidate,” he told reporters after attending a meeting with the people programme at Jalan Sungai Kechil on Wednesday (July 3).
Earlier, the Umno president addressed some 300 party members including those from Kuala Kangsar Umno division.
The programme is part of Umno’s campaign machinery for the Sungai Bakap by-election.
On Sunday (June 30), Ahmad Zahid said Umno will be fielding a candidate for the Nenggiri by-election following a vacancy in the Kelantan state seat.
The Barisan Nasional chairman also announced the appointments of former Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah as its election director and state party liaison chief Datuk Ahmad Jazlan as operations director.
The Election Commission has set the Nenggiri by-election for Aug 17, with nominations and early voting to be held on Aug 3 and Aug 13, respectively.
The by-election comes after its assemblyman, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, had his Bersatu membership terminated and the seat was declared vacant on June 19 by Kelantan assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah.
