JOHOR BARU: The mother of the baby who became a victim of negligence by her babysitter shared that her child was badly traumatised by the experience.

Farah Dayana Izzati Mohamed Nasir, 26, said that her daughter, who was now one year old, was still afraid of being near adults and would cry when approached by any unknown person.

“She is okay with other kids, but she won’t be able to look at other adults as she would be afraid and cry.

“I have placed her at a new childcare centre, and she is only fond of one of the babysitters; if the babysitter is not there, she will cry the whole day,” she said when met outside the Johor Baru Session Court, here on Tuesday (Aug 15).

Farah Dayana, who was accompanied by her husband, Mohamad Rashideen Khamisan, 26, was also present during the sentencing hearing of the former babysitter, who was charged with acting negligently, which might have caused a physical injury to two babies at a childcare centre in Taman Mutiara Rini.

She also hopes that this case could be a lesson to others out there, as there have been a lot of child abuse cases reported lately.

“If you ask me, I would have wanted to see her get a heavier punishment, but I hope that this case will serve as a reminder for all members of the public out there.

“The accused and her family, including the childcare centre, have not even apologised to me and my family for the things that have happened,” she added.

Earlier, Judge Datuk Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim sentenced the accused, Nurul Shahira A’shiqin Sulaiman, 28, to pay an RM40,000 fine for the charges.

She was also sentenced to a bond of good behaviour for two years with a surety of RM20,000 unsecured for each charge.

Nurul Shahira A’shiqin was also ordered to conduct 100 hours of community service within six months of the sentence being handed down.

On May 21, she was charged with two counts of negligence that might have caused physical injuries to an 11-month-old baby girl and a nine-month-old baby boy.

The offence was allegedly carried out on Jalan Utama 34 in Taman Mutiara Rini here at 1pm in March.

The accused was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years or a fine of up to RM50,000 or both upon conviction.

The court granted her bail at RM8,000 for each charge with one surety.

On May 15, videos of her actions went viral on social media, where she was seen screaming, spitting at, and hitting a crying infant.

In another clip, she was seen handling the infant roughly as the baby cried loudly.
